📜 House rules

  1. One guess per person. Your email is your entry. You may move your pin any time until entries lock — updating is legal, encouraged, and slightly shameful.
  2. Entries lock the day Canada Post’s location-notice letters land — or the moment a survey stake, concrete pad, or install crew appears on the street, whichever comes first.
  3. Winning: closest pin to the centre of the installed mailbox unit, straight-line distance. Tie goes to whoever placed (or last moved) their pin earliest.
  4. Play area: pins must land inside the red circle. The real spot will almost certainly be closer than the edge.
  5. Insider intel (a cousin at Canada Post, spotted surveyors, city-hall gossip) is legal — but you must brag about it in your note. This pool runs on honour.
  6. Stakes are whatever we agree on the street. The site tracks pins and glory only — settle up in person.
  7. Commissioner’s ruling is final. Appeals are heard over the fence and cost one (1) beverage.

🧠 Guess smart — Canada Post’s own criteria

  • 📏At least 9 m back from intersection corners (driver sightlines) — the tempting corner spot is usually out.
  • 🚌Never in school pickup zones or on bus pads.
  • ⚡Clear of utility boxes — transformers, telecom pedestals, buried-vault lids. If a green box already lives there, the mailbox won’t.
  • ♿Needs a concrete pad + wheelchair access: flat boulevard, room for a walkway, decent drainage.
  • 🚚The carrier needs a safe spot to stop the van — quiet mid-block stretches beat busy through-streets.
  • 💡Near an existing streetlight scores points.
  • ❄️Reachable by snow-clearing equipment. This is Regina. The windrow always wins.
  • 🏘️Central to the homes served — one module holds ~16 addresses; sites often gang 2–3 modules (roughly 30–48 homes). Think “middle of the delivery loop”, not the edge.
  • 🏛️Canada Post picks jointly with the City, but only their Delivery Services Officer signs off. Expect boring-but-sensible.
